Purple Fluorapatite Small Prismatic Crystals on Watermelon Tourmaline PA007 Description: This specimen was found in two pieces: The "cap" is a cross section of a tri-colored watermelon tourmaline (elbaite species) coated with a color zoned coating of light to medium purple small prismatic fluorapatite crystals. The cap was separated from the base at an apparent natural fracture as the two pieces join tightly with minimal damage. This specimen was back-lighted using a daylight lighting source. Some of the prismatic crystals exhibit twinning and a few grade towards the Hebron style of crystal habit. Largest crystal measures about 1cm long. The matrix is primarily microcline and pale smoky quartz, and is accented by a section of bicolor pink and blue green tourmaline. Size: The over-all specimen measures about 11 cm x 9 cm x 5 cm.
